She is proud of the fact that Piedmont Care has been a leader in changing the conversation. She is also humbled to be named this year’s Distinguished Alumna of the Year. “I was surprised,” said Jackson. “It’s exciting to be recognized by your peers and humbling because it makes me feel like I’m doing good work and that it matters.” The Piedmont Care board agrees, notes Walker. “Although we know that we have an outstanding leader, we are pleased to have this quality individual with outstanding leadership capabilities selected from many other qualified candidates recognized as USC Upstate’s Distinguished Alumna of the Year,” he said. And it is the caliber of nominations that reminds us of just how many of our alumni are pillars in the community, noted Director of Alumni Relations Charlianne Nestlen ’03. “Recognizing these distinguished alumni allows us to showcase the work they do,” she added. “They set the bar at a level that all of our students and alumni should strive to achieve.
