The Division of Student Affairs is committed to the fullest development of each USC Upstate student and believes that: > Each student is unique and has individual worth and dignity > Students mature intellectually while they are maturing socially, emotionally and vocationally > Student involvement enhances learning, a supportive and friendly campus/community life fosters student learning > Personal circumstances and the out-of-class environment affect learning > While the freedom to doubt and question must be guaranteed, bigotry cannot be tolerated > Effective citizenship should be taught within a context of free choice > Students are ultimately responsible for their own lives The Division of Student Affairs at USC Upstate will be recognized as one of the leading student service organizations among higher education institutions in the Southeast. The work of our staff will be grounded in student development theory while utilizing research data and professional expertise, thereby cultivating a comprehensive, effective approach to the student learning process. Our quality services, programs, activities and facilities are vital to the educational experience of students and will play a central role in the University’s efforts to promote student academic success. We will facilitate student personal growth and development in an environment that is safe, healthy and nurturing. We will foster an educational setting where students have equal access to involvement in a broad range of co-curricular, leadership, service and governance opportunities. We envision an institution that is a creative community of scholars where collaboration among faculty, administrators, staff, alumni and students is encouraged and valued. Our campus climate will be one of civility in which individuals and groups engage in respectful, healthy dialogue and interactions. We will strive to maintain an atmosphere where human diversity is acknowledged and appreciated and new members are readily embraced. We will endeavor to enhance the overall educational experience of all USC Upstate students. Our staff will work diligently to retain and graduate scholars who are competent, ethical and innovative.
