ATHLETICS Baseball The baseball team plays its home games at Cleveland S. Harley Baseball Park, one of four facilities at the Louis P. Howell Athletic Complex across the street from the HEC. The team has had several players, mostly pitchers, selected in the Major League Baseball Draft or sign free agent contracts with MLB franchises since moving to Division I in 2007-08. Devon Ortiz became the first Spartan in program history last season to be named ASUN Freshman of the Year while also garnering Freshman All-American recognition from Louisville Slugger. Men’s Basketball The men’s basketball team plays its home games in the G.B. Hodge Center. The team has remained a contender in the ASUN for several years and, last year, saw Michael Buchanan earn Second Team All- Conference honors and Deion Holmes was named to the All-Freshman Team. Buchanan and Holmes are part of 11 players returning for the Spartans in 2016- 17 while adding three newcomers. Women’s Basketball The women’s basketball team plays its home games in the G.B. Hodge Center. The Spartans won a Division I era record 22 games last season and advanced to the semifinals of the Women’s Basketball Invitational (WBI) Tournament. The 22 wins are tied for fourth-most in program history. The team will play a total of 15 home games this season. Men’s Cross Country The men’s cross country team runs its home meets at the Milliken Research Park adjacent to campus across Business I-85. The team will host three meets this fall in the Eye Opener Invitational, Upstate Invitational and ASUN Championships. Seniors Theodore Kountourogiannis and Alex Love will lead the team this season. Women’s Cross Country The women’s cross country team runs its home meets at the Milliken Research Park adjacent to campus across Business I-85. The team will host three meets this fall in the Eye Opener Invitational, Upstate Invitational and ASUN Championships.
